As someone who has wandered around SecondLIfe lost or bored or both looking for some point to it all, I loved this article as it gave a real powerful reason to invest time and energy in SL as a teaching tool.
I help do online education for Judo coaches and we recently discussed SL as a tool and decided against it. Had I read this article first I might have fought for SL.
Thanks loads!
LanceAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3155908228127841862.post-61927390386873745902011-01-08T11:11:18.834-07:002011-01-08T11:11:18.834-07:00Just found this post thanks to the LinkedIn thread...Just found this post thanks to the LinkedIn thread on IBM Learning Commons - great post on why Virtual Environments are a unique way to learn. Personally I do think 3D environments are also a better way to do PowerPoint presentations for distributed teams than say WebEx - something I've written about http://blog.knowsense.co.uk/blog/_archives/2009/11/5/4371505.htmlNeil Canhamhttp://blog.knowsense.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3155908228127841862.post-23472648440942826302010-05-19T08:01:58.110-06:002010-05-19T08:01:58.110-06:00Awesome post. Let's hope more and more professionals start to realize the impact of results of utilizing this technology.
Thank you Greg!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3155908228127841862.post-73603052707375002292010-05-18T21:35:30.682-06:002010-05-18T21:35:30.682-06:00Nicely stated Greg...your "experience" i...Nicely stated Greg...your "experience" is what we've been focusing on in SL for a while now. The thing is that if we can create an environment and activity that makes enough neural connections...the brain does not distinguish between the "virtual" experience and a "real" experience. As far as it was concerned...you were there. Our focus now is on creating those brain-engaging experiences...we've even created a new learning methodology to do that. Thanks for the reminder that this stuff does work!

John Jamison/Virtual BaconJohn Jamisonhttp://www.imagilearning.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3155908228127841862.post-50136969066097646812010-05-18T09:25:15.353-06:002010-05-18T09:25:15.353-06:00the negotiation was not with the union per se, but...the negotiation was not with the union per se, but with a company that was an outsourcing group for santas in Malls throughout the US and Canada.
